Scene cards need to be able to auto-size
Quote from huge on January 18, 2022, 8:30 amor adjust height automatically.
And the timeline blocks need to be able to be manually adjusted in width.
BTW, I'm a Chinese screen writer. If you need Chinese translation in UI, I can provide it.

@huge: Several versions ago, when we first featured Index Cards, they would automatically increase height based on the content typed in them. Many users complained and actually preferred constant height index cards. Since then we have switched to this UI. Index cards are meant to capture, within 4-5 lines, a quick summary or intention of the scene/sequence. While users can type additional information into it, index card is not the intended place to view/read them in their entirety. The correct place for doing that would be the Notebook.
And the timeline blocks need to be able to be manually adjusted in width.
Width of timeline blocks are meant to provide a visual cue regarding the screen time of the scene that they represent. You can scale this width by clicking on the zoom in/out icons. The blocks shown on the timeline are not intended to show the entire synopsis. That's not the purpose of these blocks. The purpose is to provide a visual cue about their scene time and the sequential placement of the scene relative to other scenes.

Thank you for offering to help with this. Mighty nice of you! In terms of language support, we plan to first add support for more languages (for writing) in the Screenplay Editor before translating the UI itself. I will be sure to reach out to you when we get to translating the UI itself.

Quote from huge on January 20, 2022, 5:19 amThank you. I think these features could come as options. The advantage of auto-sizing is that it can accommodate scripts that have huge differences between scenes, such as one scene that is 8 minutes long with 6 beats, the next scene that is only 30 seconds, and the next scene that is 15 minutes long.
The fixed size card style comes from the old days of Post-It sticky notes, and many people are familiar with this. But now that we're in the computer age, some people like me have never even used sticky notes in the script writing and can't understand why we have to use fixed-size cards on the computer as well. Since you've done the auto-size feature before, how about setting an option switch?
By the way, the auto-size of the card is actually somewhat close to the beat. There is beat board in some software such as Final Draft. Each beat card is manually adjustable in size. Since Scrite does not have beat function, the auto-sized index card can actually be used as beat card: multiple beats written on one card, which requires the card to be auto-sized.
You can scale this width by clicking on the zoom in/out icons.
Do you mean that I can set the width of the block or the whole timeline zooming in and out? In my computer, these two buttons do not work. The system is Windows 10, the software version is 0.8.6.
The image on your home page shows that you have implemented the ability to set the width.
