We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use Scrite, our screenwriting software or the content on this website.
1. Document Storage Is Your Responsibility
Scrite is an offline application. Documents created using Scrite are stored locally on storage devices or services chosen by you. IEDN Technologies does not operate a cloud storage or file-syncing service for Scrite documents, and has never represented itself as doing so.
We do not transmit, upload, or retain copies of your Scrite documents on our servers. As a result, we have no access to your files and no ability to retrieve, restore, or locate them on your behalf. Responsibility for the storage, backup, and security of your Scrite documents rests solely with you.
Note that while Scrite is an offline application, it uses hosted web-services to support certain features such as account activation and licensing. Information collected through these services is described in the sections below.
2. Information We Collect
Device Information: When you sign up and/or activate installations of Scrite, we collect the following information to uniquely identify your device:
- Your email ID
- Your hardware ID
- OS name and version
User Profile Information: On the user profile page within the app, we may ask you to provide additional personal information such as your name, phone number, and other relevant details. We also infer your location information, such as country and city, from your IP address. This is used to determine applicable currency and to meet tax compliance requirements such as GST billing, and to enhance your overall experience with Scrite.
Billing Information: When you sign up for a paid subscription plan, we collect additional information for billing purposes. While we do not store credit card or payment instrument information, we use a third-party payment gateway to process payments. We cannot guarantee that the payment gateway will not store this information. Any information provided to the payment gateway is handled according to their privacy terms.
Website Visitor Information: We may collect information from visitors to our website through Google Analytics, popup forms or surveys. This data will be used solely to gather feedback and to reach out to users for specific needs.
Activity Logs: Scrite periodically sends activity logs to our servers. These logs include information that helps identify the user and the specific actions they are taking within the app. Importantly, these logs do not contain details about the content (scripts or screenplays) they are viewing or creating within the app. The information collected is used for analytics to understand which product features to focus on and improve. Users can disable activity logging through their user profile page within the app. If logging is turned off, only product launch activity will be tracked, and no other activities will be logged.
Surveys and Feedback: From time to time, we may conduct surveys within the app or on our website to better understand our users. These surveys may ask for information such as how you discovered Scrite, your professional background, or other details that help us serve you better. Responses are used solely to improve our understanding of user needs and to guide product development.
In-App Messages: Our apps may feature an in-app messages or notifications panel, to which we may send messages from time to time. These messages may help you use the product better, or may include information about available plans or pricing offers, or contain other information that may be of use to you. Please note that in-app messages cannot currently be turned off or opted out of. We collect data related to these messages, including delivery status, read receipts, and any clicks on calls to action (CTAs), in order to monitor and improve message performance.
3. Cookies
Our website uses cookies to enhance your browsing experience and to collect data on website usage. Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit our site. They help us:

- Analyze how you interact with our website
- Improve the functionality and performance of our site

4. Official vs. Custom Builds
User information collected by official builds of Scrite (available for download from our website) is stored on our servers. Custom builds of Scrite, which are created by downloading the source code from GitHub, do not have access to the API keys required to communicate with our servers. Therefore, data from these custom builds is not processed or stored on our servers. Custom builds will not have access to user data or the features requiring API access.
5. Support and Service Requests
Any information shared with us during support or service requests may be stored perpetually and used solely for servicing the request and improving product quality.
6. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
- Authenticate and activate your installations
- Provide you with access to all features of Scrite
- Process subscription payments and manage your account
- Improve the functionality of Scrite
- Gather feedback and address specific user needs
7. Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. User data is available only to builds of Scrite that use a special API key, which is not accessible to any third party. However, we cannot guarantee that the API key will never be reverse-engineered, and therefore we cannot vouch for the secure storage of the data. No data transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Data Retention
We retain your information for an unspecified duration as long as necessary to provide the services you request and as required by law. Users may request the deletion of their data by contacting us via email. We will process such requests within one month from the date of the request. Please note that not all data associated with active paid subscribers can be deleted.
9. Discord Community
We have a Discord community where Scrite users can post questions, report bugs, ask questions, or network with others. Please note that content shared on Discord is covered under Discord’s privacy policy.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the updated policy on our website.
